BOB MARLEY
 
6th Feb 1945 – 11th May 1981
Bob Marley’s music & philosophies have been a huge influence in my life. Although I am not an advocate for his lifestyle (Rastafarianism, & basically smoking weed as a way of life!) it is this lifestyle that led him to be the peace pioneer & influential person that he was.
He introduced reggae music to the world, & used his music & his popularity to promote peace in a time of Political violence in Jamaica. In 1976 he was scheduled to play at the ‘Smile Jamaica’ concert. The concert was perceived to be a Political statement, & 2 days before the concert Bob, his wife, & 2 of his band managers were shot in an assassination attempt. With 2 gunshot wounds, he played the concert anyway.
He was awarded the International Peace Medal by the African delegation to the United Nations in 1978.
Sadly, Bob Marley died of cancer at age 36. In his 36 short years 1 man changed the world, & his legend lives on in his music today.
